SGF09 Back In Service

July 5th, 2008 by kq0q

Springfield packet users will be pleased to know that the SGF09 packet node is back in service!  SGF09 allows us to link to two full service PBBS’s and effectively link up to the rest of the packet world.  Mike Blake and David Patillo installed an Icom 2100 radio and Kantronics KPC 3 TNC at the Channel 10 transmitting tower in Fordland, MO.  The station was connected to an existing antenna that had been abandon when the 145.490 repeater was moved to the KWFQ tower site.  The SGF09 antenna is approximately at the 550 ft elevation.  5 watts should be enough to get you into the node from most places in Springfield.

We have more to do but this is a big step for packet in the immediate Springfield area. SGF09 allows you to link to two full service PBBS’s and virtually the rest of the packet world.

Cheap, “Flexible” Antenna

April 16th, 2008 by dpatillo

I have been working on a directional 2 meter beam.  It is a 3 element yagi that is very simple to build.  Also, if you remove the director and reflector, it works very well as an omnidirectional antenna!  WOW!  Two for one!  I plan to post more info and pictures soon so “stay tuned”.

Monday Night Net

December 30th, 2007 by kc0vgc

Hello everyone,

Lance invited me to write a short note about the The Monday Night Net so here it goes.  The net takes place  on Mondays at 8:00pm local time on the 53.270 KCØLUN (-1.7 Mhz offset) repeater.  The primary purpose of this net is to promote the enjoyment of amateur radio by means of round-table discussion of a more technical nature on all things related to six meters and below.  However, all topics and interests appropriate for amateur radio are welcome.  The emphasis being on making sure everyone has a good time discussing it.  If you have a question, ask it.  If you have an answer, share it.  If you have a comment, make it.

That should do it.
